The Counseling Professionals' Statement of Purpose:

At Counseling Professionals LPC we are committed to providing confidential counseling services that embrace solutions and strengths. From individual counseling to group therapy, we are proven experts in helping people find their way and live up to their potential.

We adopt a non-judgmental stance for each client and work with what each person brings to a therapy session. We believe that behaviors have a reason and try to help clients understand why they do what they do.

We seek to help people find their way through difficult situations and aid them in seeking new directions and new perspective.

FAQs:
  • What is counseling?
It is a means to promote balanced mental health through talk therapy.
  • How does it work?
Usually with hour-long therapeutic sessions, we explore your problems, perspective, questions, and relationships to look for balance and ways to cope with living your daily lives and managing difficult situations. We also work to help you manage depression, anxiety, pain (physical and psychological) and other symptoms that bring discomfort to you.
  • How long does it take?
Most sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis. Most therapeutic interventions take four to sixteen sessions. However, some may take less or more.
  • Will I be labeled crazy?
That diagnosis does not exist in our work. We will talk with you about a diagnosis, but our work with the individual person is based on his/her own issues. Diagnoses are used to communicate between professionals and are required for insurance payments.
  • Who can know my information?
No one without your permission can know anything about you, including if you are attending therapy. There are strong laws protecting your health information which we follow diligently.
  • Who are we?
We are Licensed Professional Counselors, one of the groups of mental health professionals, such as Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists. We offer: Mental Health Services, Psychotherapy and Psychological Assessment throughout North Carolina. North Carolina issues licenses based on meeting stringent qualifications and following clear guidelines.

Featured Publication:
"Singleness: A Guide to Understanding and Satisfaction"
by Nadene Peterson, Barbara Sofie

Book Description:
Using examples from real life, this book moves from the negative emotions and the needs and conflicts of single people to finding yourself and growing from need to choice. It illustrates the myths of singleness and marriage. A major premise of the book is that feeling whole before you couple allows you to enjoy a relationship that is based on interdependence rather than dependence or co-dependence. It is easy to read and understand and exercises are provided that can help one make intelligent choices about living alone or together.
